TASMAN FC MAIL MEDALLIST
From the Times, REECE Francis won the 2012 Port Lincoln Football League Mail Medal convincingly on Wednesday night in only his second year playing for the Tasman Roosters.
Francis took out the medal on 32 votes over 2011 Mail Medalist Matt Keatley on 24 votes and Marble Range's Matt Parker who narrowly missed out on runner-up on 23 votes.
At the end of round five, Francis was already in the lead on 11 votes and led throughout the entire count, tallying seven votes in the final five rounds of the season.
A humble Francis, who was also awarded the league's A grade best team man, put his eight-vote win down to luck.
"I got very lucky (this year)," he said.
Francis said he had enjoyed playing more of a leadership role at Tasman this year and working with the younger players at the club.
"We've got a young team, it's good working with the young lads," he said.
"(But) I would love to win a premiership, it's been 20 years (since Tasman's last premiership)," he said.
Francis said he had enjoyed his two years at Tasman, where he missed out on some of the 2011 season through injury, and described his club as very welcoming and a "great bunch of blokes".
Tasman A grade coach Carl Semmler said Francis' win was well deserved.
"It's been great for our footy club to have him," he said."The best part about him is, he's not finished yet."
Runner-up Matt Keatley said Francis' win was "100 per cent well deserved"."(He has) pretty much just come and torn this competition apart, (he) absolutely killed it," Keatley said.
Wayback enjoyed success in the reserves count, with Tristan Kouwenhoven taking out the best and fairest ahead of Mallee Park's Wayne Jos.Kouwenhoven said his win was unexpected and came as a complete shock.
The league's best under 21 was a joint affair, with Wayback's Dale Montgomerie and Lincoln South's Mitchell Hall sharing the honour.
Tasman's Zac Melzner was named the 2012 Port Lincoln Times Rising Star, which was handed over by last year's recipient Braydn Traeger.
